At Texas Floor & Home by Carpet One, we believe a beautiful floor is about more than square footage and style—it's about building a stronger community right here in Fort Bend County. For over fifty years, we've helped Houston-area families find flooring they love. But some of our proudest work happens outside the showroom, when we partner with organizations that change lives.
Sugar Land isn't just where we do business. It's where our team lives, raises families, and roots for the Skeeters on a Friday night. When you support a locally-owned flooring company, you're also supporting the causes we care about most. That's why we've teamed up with Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to building mortgage-free Smart Homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
Here's what that partnership means for our neighbors across Fort Bend County and the greater Houston area:
Our first Tunnel to Towers Smart Home build supported Denton Police Department Patrol Officer Urbano Rodriguez Jr., a Texas native and Seguin-raised officer who spent his career protecting others. During a routine traffic stop, Officer Rodriguez was shot four times—including once in the head—and then struck by the very vehicle he had pulled over. He survived, but the injuries were devastating: he lost half of his skull, required a rod placed in his leg, and endured four brain surgeries. Today, Officer Rodriguez is paralyzed on his right side and has had to relearn basic motor skills, reading, and writing.
Through it all, his resilience has never wavered. As he shared:
- "I will never quit! My family and I really appreciate all you've done with providing me a home."
Officer Rodriguez now lives in a custom-built, accessible smart home in Crossroads, Texas—designed specifically around his needs—where he spends time with his children, Gabriel and Madeline, and the rest of his close-knit family. His home was completed in February 2026, and we were honored to play a part in making it possible.
Our second smart home build continues this mission, honoring another hero whose sacrifice has shaped the lives of those around him. We're proud to stand behind this build the same way we stood behind Officer Rodriguez's, bringing comfort, accessibility, and dignity to a well-deserved recipient and his family. Stay tuned for future updates on this amazing project!
For readers unfamiliar with the program, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation builds mortgage-free, specially adapted smart homes for veterans and first responders who have suffered catastrophic injuries in service to our country. These homes are designed with accessibility features—from wider doorways to roll-in showers—that give recipients the independence they deserve.
As a flooring company, we understand firsthand how much a well-designed home can affect daily life. That understanding is part of why this cause resonates so deeply with our Sugar Land team.

If Officer Rodriguez's story moved you the way it moved us, there are a few ways to join the cause:
